Bavaria, so much more than a white-blue lozenge flag

On 20 November, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, Alenka Smerkolj crossed the border for a meeting with the Bavarian State Minister of Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber in Munich. Soon it became clear that both parties share the opinion that the synergy potential between the Federal State of Bavaria and the Alpine Convention should continue to be optimally deployed. In the context of cooperation, the interest and role of the bodies of the Alpine Convention within the Macroregional Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) ware also discussed. Furthermore, the issue of the intensifying land use as well as the importance of soil protection were tackled.

With this meeting, Alenka Smerkolj once again translates the principle of cooperation, upon which the Alpine Convention will operate, into practice. “Forces need to be joined on all levels – from local to European and from civil to public courage - in order to tackle climate change, nature protection or biodiversity preservation!”, so Alenka.
