28th session of the Compliance Committee in Vienna

The Austrian Presidency of the AlpineConvention welcomed the delegates from the Contracting Parties, from theObserver organisations as well as experts for the 28th session ofthe Convention’s Compliance Committee, taking place from 6 to 8 February 2019 in Vienna.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Thomas Loidlfrom the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria. After the opening on Wednesday by Secretary General  AmbassadorMarkus Reiterer, the participants finalised the compliance report on the indepth review of the topic “parsimonious use of soil”.

This report includesrecommendations on how to reduce land take and to prevent soil sealing withinthe scope of the application of the Alpine Convention. The report and itsrecommendations were approved to be presented to the XVAlpineConference on the 4th of April 2019 in Innsbruck. The Compliance Committee also adopted its activity report, which will likewise be presented to the upcoming Conference.
