For a sustainable energy transition in the Alps

The 2nd EUSALP Energy Conference took place in Innsbruck/AT on 2 October 2018, organized by EUSALP Action Group 9 on the topic “Energy Transition in the Alps”.

Deputy Secretary General Marianna Elmi presented the work done on energy issues in the frame of the Alpine Convention and participated in the final panel discussion. “Energy efficiency, and actual energy savings, are a major objective of the Energy Protocol, and paramount to achieving climate protection goals. As for renewable energy development, it needs to happen in partnership with the inhabitants, agriculture, tourism etc., on appropriate sites within the ecological limits of the Alps.”

These messages were also underlined by many experiences presented by participants from various Alpine countries. Have a look back at the recommendations from the German Presidency’s collection of “Best-Practice Examples for renewable energy projects compatible with land use and nature protection in the Alps” (in DEITFRSL) for further insight.
