Ground:breaking

The project aims to advance desealing and upgrading of soils in urban and peri-urban areas in the Alpine region. Desealing can restore soil functions in the long term, which will contribute to biodiversity conservation. However, desealing projects often conflict with other user interests, particularly in urban areas. Scientific findings on sparing use, balancing competing usage requirements, and on desealing soils in heavily used areas will be drawn on to help maintain healthy soils and use them sustainably. The project also envisages concrete implementation measures in selected regions (four model processes) and a competition on best practices.
