Making up for missed time at the first in-person Permanent Committee meeting since 2019!

The Permanent Committee of the Alpine Conference gathered in-person for the first time since November 2019. On the 5th and 6th of July, delegates from all Alpine countries and the European Union travelled to the city of Berne in Switzerland for their first in-presence meeting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This 75th meeting of the Permanent Committee was characterised by very constructive discussions, a sense of renewed motivation and an extensive agenda, as this will be the last meeting before the XVII Alpine Conference scheduled for the 26th and 27th of October 2022. Every opportunity to discuss and catch up with others was warmly welcomed.

The agenda points included an update on the Swiss Presidency’s programme as well as the work of other organs of the Convention including the Compliance Committee and the Thematic Working Bodies. The mandates of the latter for the next period, as well as the Multi-Annual Work Programme 2023-2030 and the Ninth Report on the State of the Alps on Alpine towns were endorsed for submission to the ministers.

The constructive atmosphere of the Permanent Committee lasted through both days and we look forward to continuing our cooperation with all members of the Alpine Convention family in the run-up to the Alpine Conference!
