ClimaHost contest launched!

The alpine-wide contest “ClimaHost – Climate protection and energy efficiency in hotel and restaurants” was launched today 7 June by the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Svenja Schulze, the Austrian Federal Minister for Sustainability and Tourism Elisabeth Köstinger and the Secretary General Markus Reiterer.

Managers of restaurants and accommodation structures (from mountain huts to 5-star hotels) within the perimeter of the Alpine Convention which are particularly active in minimizing the carbon footprint of their business are invited to apply online until 31 August 2018. The winners will be selected by an international jury and an award ceremony will take place at the XV Alpine Conference. “Sustainable tourism in the sense of the Alpine Convention is mostly alive through the involvement of hosts who display to their guests how to live in the Alps in harmony with the environment. ClimaHost is a very concrete initiative to give recognition to good practices and share them across borders”, says Reiterer. The contest follows up on the initiative started in the frame of the German Presidency 2015-2016.
