On 21 April 2026, the Chairs of the Thematic Working Bodies (TWB) were invited to Rome by the Italian Presidency and the Permanent Secretariat to discuss the groups’ current work, the upcoming German Presidency, and future potential priorities and synergies.
The workshop was structured around the three priorities of the Multi-Annual Work Programme (MAP), namely Biodiversity & Ecosystems, Climate Action and Quality of Life. Scheduled at the time when the nine TWBs are finalising the results of their current mandates in view of the Alpine Conference and starting discussions on their future activities, the workshop gave the participants the opportunity to reflect on how to jointly use the outputs of the groups and the Italian Presidency and how to build synergies with each other and with the upcoming German Presidency.
On the following days, 22-23 April, the Compliance Committee also met to pursue its work on the review of the implementation of the Convention.
The discussions held during both meetings laid the groundwork for a smooth transition between the current and the future Presidencies of the Alpine Convention.
