"Women move Mountains" during the Reading Mountains Festival!

“Women play a key role in environmental protection and social and economic development in mountain areas. They are often the primary managers of mountain resources, guardians of biodiversity, keepers of traditional knowledge, custodians of local culture and experts in traditional medicine," – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

To shine a light on women in mountain regions, the slogan “Women Move Mountains” was chosen for this year's International Mountain Day. This also serves as inspiration for those organising a Reading Mountains Festival event.

This year, the eighth edition of the Reading Mountains Festival not only takes place on International Mountain Day (11n December), but also in the framework of the “International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development,” which has been proclaimed by the United Nations to raise awareness of the need to protect and sustainably develop mountain areas.

There are already more than 30 events registered for this year’s Reading Mountains Festival, spread across the Alpine region and beyond. To learn more and find an event near you, visit our website or Facebook page.

It is not too late to register your event and be part of the many different organisers across the Alpine arc and beyond! Join us with an event dedicated to Alpine literature, music, art, film, the outdoors or any other event that celebrates the stories of the mountains and the richness and diversity of the Alps and their literature.
