Visit from the Austrian climate minister

The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention was honoured to welcome Leonore Gewessler, the Austrian Federal Minister for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology on Monday, 3 April 2023.

Alenka Smerkolj, Alpine Convention Secretary General, and Wolfger Mayrhofer, Deputy Secretary General, gave the minister a tour of the Secretariat’s newly renovated offices in the iconic Golden Roof building in the heart of Innsbruck.

After the tour, the Minister, the Secretary General and her Deputy exchanged on current topics of importance within the Alpine Convention including the Slovenian Presidency programme.

Austria is one of the nine Contracting Parties of the Alpine Convention and hosts the seat of the Permanent Secretariat (with a branch office in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy). Austria is also the Depositary of the Alpine Convention – the location where all signed Convention documents are stored.

Our warmest thanks to Minister Gewessler for the positive exchanges. We look forward to a continued strong cooperation!
