The past year has been a challenging one, but it has also taught us to stay connected despite keeping our distance. Moreover, culture and literature have enabled us to explore new places and travel the world – without leaving home. The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention is therefore thrilled to announce that we will once again be celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Alps with the seventh edition of the Reading Mountains Festival in the week of International Mountain Day, 11 December 2021!
The Festival was initiated by the German Presidency of the Alpine Convention in 2015 to give mountain literature a stage and celebrate its contribution to the unique Alpine region. Previous editions of the Festival have seen a mosaic of events organised across the whole Alpine region and beyond. The 2020 edition of the Reading Mountains Festival took place in a challenging situation, but despite the circumstances, 66 different literary events took place across and beyond the Alps under the umbrella of the Alpine Convention.
We are now looking forward to another successful edition of the Festival and invite you to join this year’s Reading Mountains Festival. Whether you want to participate in one of the great events taking place across the Alps or organise your own event – we invite you to join us in bringing the Reading Mountains Festival 2021 to life!
If you wish to organise your own event, we ask you to officially register your event via the registration form on our website, which should be done by 30 November 2021. You can be as creative as you like: from interactive readings and literary walks to hybrid or online book presentations and poetry slams – depending on what your local sanitary situation allows. The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention will provide promotional material and support the visibility of your event. You can find more information about the Reading Mountains Festival here.
