Ten years of "Constructive Alps" – Conference and book launch on 9 and 10 June 2021

The architecture competition Constructive Alps celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2021. To mark the occasion, a conference on sustainable renovation and construction in the Alps was held online on 9 and 10 June 2021. A book entitled ‘Building in the Alps’ was also introduced at the event.

The Swiss presidency of the Alpine Convention organised the event to promote climate-friendly building and renovation in the Alps and strengthen Alpine building culture. During the conference, experts discussed frugality as an opportunity for climate protection in construction and renovation, as well as how to increase climate awareness through long-term sustainable use of buildings.

The Constructive Alps conference focused on practice. Contractors, architects, planners and users discussed how buildings can be built with little or no impact on the climate in the Alps and shared their experiences with the audience.

Moreover, on the evening of 9 June, the book 'Building in the Alps - An architectural guide to climate reason' was launched. The book offers insights into the milestones of sustainable architecture in the Alps over the last 10 years, accompanied by literary contributions and thoughts. It was published by Hochparterre on 16 June. The author of the book and chair of the Constructive Alps jury, Köbi Gantenbein, also explored the future of the competition.
