The first and currently only Infopoint in Germany is located in Sonthofen, the southernmost city in Germany. More than 20 years ago, the city administration set out to create a sustainable and grandchild-friendly future and for its efforts was awarded the title of Alpine Town of the Year in 2005.

Sonthofen has been participating in the Alpine Convention’s Reading Mountains Festival since 2015 and Sonthofen's young people are also involved in the Youth Parliament to the Alpine Convention (YPAC). The Alpine town has already hosted this parliamentary simulation twice. Sonthofen's active commitment to the goals of the Alpine Convention is also reflected in the fact that the district town of Oberallgäu is a bicycle-friendly municipality.
