The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention joined the 56th Conference of Heads of Government of the Working Community of the Alpine Regions (ARGE ALP) in Trento, Italy, from 23-24 October.
The yearly conference brings together heads of government of the ARGE ALP regions to discuss joint initiatives, projects, and any processes relevant to the association. This year’s meeting marked the end of the presidency of the Autonomous Province of Trento and formalised the handover to the state of Vorarlberg (Austria) for the next year. The Alpine Convention participated as an official observer to ARGE ALP, and was represented by its Secretary General, Alenka Smerkolj.
Chaired by the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, the meeting focused on issues crucial to the future of mountain areas. It also saw the adoption of several resolutions and declarations on topics ranging from the management of large carnivores to actions for younger generations in the mountains. As many of the topics are also dealt with by the Alpine Convention, the Conference offered the opportunity to join forces and enhance future cooperation between the two organisations.
