Mayor of Innsbruck visits Alpine Convention office

Alpine Convention Secretary General Alenka Smerkolj was pleased to welcome the Mayor of Innsbruck, Johannes Anzengruber, to the Permanent Secretariat’s office in the historic Golden Roof building. The offices were renovated a few years ago thanks to kind contributions by the city of Innsbruck, the Land Tyrol, Austria and further Contracting Parties.

Beginning with an explanation of the different levels of action of the Alpine Convention, including the main bodies and partners, Secretary General Smerkolj also outlined the Convention’s current strategic priorities, which are laid down in the Multi-Annual Work Programme 2023-2030, as well as the programme of the Italian Presidency (2024-2025).

Mayor Anzengruber in turn shared insights into some of the city’s current projects in the field of climate change adaptation, especially in the reduction of urban hotspots, tree planting to increase the climate-resilience of the protection forests around the city and securing of the quantity and quality of the drinking water supply.

This productive exchange reaffirmed the cooperation between the city and the Alpine Convention and we look forward to building on and strengthening this partnership!
