Alpine Convention film prize goes to ‘Requiem for a glacier’!

Paying tribute to the disappearing glaciers of the Eastern Alps, the film ‘Requiem in Weiß / Requiem for a glacier’ weaves together different perspectives from science, industry, civil society, and politics. Directed by Tyrolean filmmaker Harry Putz, the film shows scenes of melting ice and new emerging landscapes as well as speaking to the people affected by these changes at 14 glacier sites across Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

The Alpine Convention was pleased to award this film, selected by an independent international jury, with its prize for “Best film on quality of life in the Alps” at the 24th edition of the Innsbruck Nature Film Festival (INFF)!

The jury chose the film because it portrays “the disappearance of Alpine glaciers through breathtaking landscape imagery, capturing the emotional loss and conflicts of interest while giving a balanced voice to alpinists, tourism managers, and scientists”.

The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention is pleased to be long-time partner of the festival and to be sponsoring the Alpine Convention’s film prize for the second time.

Sixty-eight films from more than 30 countries were selected for the INFF, which took place from 8-12 October, and which has become one of the cultural highlights in Innsbruck and the surrounding region.

“The Alpine Convention recognises the important work done by filmmakers in drawing attention to the greatest challenges of our time. It is a pleasure to award the Alpine Convention’s film prize to this documentary, which pays tribute to our disappearing glaciers” said Alenka Smerkolj, Secretary General of the Alpine Convention.
