A productive meeting between Secretary General of the Alpine Convention, Alenka Smerkolj, the new Mayor of Bolzano/Bozen, Claudio Corrarati, and the new Councillor for the Environment, Marco Caruso, took place on 9 December.
The Secretary General presented the ongoing activities of the Alpine Convention and, in particular, the role of the Secretariat's operational branch office in Bolzano/Bozen. She emphasised how important the city is for the Alpine Convention, both as a venue for events and institutional meetings and as a partner of the Permanent Secretariat.
During the meeting, discussions also centred around the priorities and ongoing activities of the Italian Presidency of the Alpine Convention (2025-2026), which involves the entire Italian Alpine territory including the Municipality of Bolzano/Bozen.
Mayor Corrarati showed great interest in the activities and a willingness to increase exchanges and collaboration between the Convention and the city, proposing it as a venue for important institutional meetings and technical workshops in the future. He also expressed his interest in more actively participating in the Convention’s activities. Bolzano/Bozen also remains an important partner for the cultural events organised by the Permanent Secretariat’s office as part of the Reading Mountains Festival.
