Cooperating to support the future French Presidency

On 24 October in Chamonix, Secretary General Markus Reiterer met the Vice President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in charge of the environment and sustainable development Eric Fournier in his town of Chamonix.

They discussed the issues which could be dealt with in the frame of the upcoming French Presidency of the Alpine Convention, in particular air quality and transports. Together with Commissioner Philippe Matheron, representing the national spatial planning authority and Secretary of the Committee for the Alpine Massif, they also exchanged on the governance of mountain policies in France and the best ways to involve the various stakeholders.
A joint meeting with the Head Muriel Claudel and English teacher Perrine Simond from the Frison-Roche secondary school, member of the Youth Parliament of the Alpine Convention (YPAC), also set the bases to reinforce the collaboration between the school and the municipality of Chamonix on environmental and citizenship education.
Ambassador Reiterer concludes: “The Alpine Convention needs to be translated into concrete measures at the local level. I am looking forward to the joint development of the many ideas which emerged in our meetings. I am also particularly grateful that we can count on the Infopoint of the Alpine Convention in Chamonix to raise awareness on the Convention and its activities.”
