An official perimeter determines the Alpine Convention area of implementation which covers parts of Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and also Liechtenstein and Monaco. The System of Observation and Information on the Alps as well as the maps elaborated on different themes concentrate on this perimeter. They mainly cover overview maps providing information on indicators such as population or tourism density, but also on monitoring sites for ground and surface waters as well as protected areas all over the Alps.
