EXAMPLES OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ALPINE CONVENTION

Bergsteigerdörfer: Urlaub in den Bergen Österreichs ökologisch & aktiv -
Villages of Alpinism
Upon the initiative of the Austrian Alpine Club and with
the support of the Federal Ministry for Life (Lebensministerium), the network
"Villages for Alpinism" gathers several communities in Austria who have decided
to invest in a non mass tourism, but rather on a tourism linked to the territory
and the alpinist culture. Such an initiative promotes a tourism managed in a
spirit of respect for the mountain, particularly for the small municipalities at the
periphery. The cooperation between hotels, restaurants and public
administration is crucial.
Thanks to the INTERREG IV A Italy – Austria project “Bergsteigerdörfer ohne Grenzen
- Villages of the mountaineers without Frontiers” the Bergsteigerdörfer’s experience
extends to the municipalities of Forno di Zoldo, Cibiana di Cadore e Zoppé di Cadore
in the provinces of Belluno (I).

Lou Tourbiillet – Village hotel Saint-Marcel (Val d’Aoste -I)
The Village-Hotel is a new form of sustainable tourism, and proposes a common
management of the bed places already available on the municipal territory, by
letting houses, flats and other accommodation that would otherwise remain
empty. In June 2010, the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention has
promoted the idea by organizing a Conference "Experiences with tourism in
alpine environment: innovation and good practices. Alpine culture on stage
",  held
precisely at Saint-Marcel.
