28th session of the Compliance Committee in Vienna
The Austrian Presidency of the Alpine Convention welcomed the delegates from the Contracting Parties, from the Observer organisations as well as experts for the 28th session of the Convention’s Compliance Committee, taking place from 6 to 8 February 2019 in Vienna.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Thomas Loidl from the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria. After the opening on Wednesday by Secretary General  Ambassador Markus Reiterer, the participants finalized the compliance report on the in depth review of the topic “parsimonious use of soil”. This report includes recommendations on how to reduce land take and to prevent soil sealing within the scope of the application of the Alpine Convention. The report and its recommendations were approved to be presented to the XV Alpine Conference on the 4th of April 2019 in Innsbruck.  The Compliance Committee also adopted its activity report, which likewise will be presented to the upcoming Conference.
